The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were launched in 2000 as a way of aiding governments to help their people out of poverty, ignorance and disease. By 2015, developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America have supposed to have halved poverty, achieved universal education, promoted gender equality, reduced child mortality, improved maternal health, combated HIV/AIDS and malaria, ensured environmental sustainability and developed global partnership. Last month's UN general assembly showed that in Africa most countries are going to miss those milestones but some like Ghana are on track to meet the deadline. This edition of Africa Today asks what guarantees are in place for Ghana successfully achieving MDGs targets by 2015.
